printf() is a recently formed organization whose goal is to bring electronic musicians and
new media artists to perform, exhibit, and lecture in Dallas, Texas.
We feel that in a time when our lives are affected dramatically by computers and digital networks,
Dallas arts do not adequetely reflect that fact. Initially our focus will be
on musicians whose performances are as much about music as they are about video, performance, or process.
We plan to coordinate with the Austin Museum of Digital Art and
the Aurora Picture Show in Houston who
are working toward similar goals.
An application for tax exempt, non-profit status is in progress.
Our first performance will be on Thursday, May 19th.
It will feature the French laptop trio, DAT Politics,
the local Dallas band, Tree Wave, who create music and video
with obsolete computer and videogame hardware, and a showing of Cory Arcangel/Paperrad's
Super Mario Movie, a 15 minute
movie made by rewriting the code for the classic Nintendo game.
The show will be at The Casket Factory,
which is the smaller building immediately south of the Southside on Lamar building.
Admission will be $8, and any profit from this show will go back into printf() for future shows.
We will be selling water, soda, and paletas,
but it will be BYOB since the venue does not have a liquor license. Tree Wave plays at 9 and DAT Politics at 10. Pre-sale tickets
will be available at Good Records starting Friday, May 6.
See a video of DAT Politics here.
The address for Southside is 1409 S. Lamar, Dallas TX, 75215.
The Casket Factory is to the left of the Southside building when facing the front.
It is along "Arnold" towards the back of the building near the parking gate.
