[NSFW] I love these mix mp3s from my friend Jeremy. If I took the time to keep up with music and make mix mp3s, mine would probably be very similar but not as good. |

(note: dorkbotdfw.org website is down, we’re working on it…) We finally have a Dallas Dorkbot starting up. If you don’t know Dorkbot, it’s a group that meets regularly to share ideas, tools, and methods for artwork and music made with electricity, computers, and electronics. This includes circuit bending, hacking art, generative music, robotics, and so on. The original Dorkbot was started by Columbia professor Doug Repetto in NY, and the group now has local chapters in many cities around the world. We are planning to have bi-monthly meetings, and the first meeting is this Sunday, April 27th at And/Or Gallery at 1pm. At the first meeting I will be speaking about some of my new music software, and Lars Larson will be talking about his synth modifications and other audio hacking. We will also have some open mic time for other people to talk about their projects, and we could actually use another official speaker for Sunday if anyone’s game. If you are interested in this sort of thing please GET INVOLVED! Join our Google discussion group or contact me if you want to help out. We could actually probably use some volunteers to help with promotion, set up and tech for the meetings, and we need folding chairs. Also we are looking for more people to present their projects in the future. Join the google group or email me if you want to get on board. |

And/Or went to an art fair, we’re all professional and serious now. It was just the top Dallas contemporary galleries, but it’s a start. And it went really, really well. Check out the pix: http://www.kevintodora.com/cadd/slideshow I really don’t want to be a full-on dealer, but there’s actually a chance that we could break even this year, which is crazy and kinda cool! FYI: CADD = Contemporary Art Dealers of Dallas, and it’s a new invite-only organization of (most of) the top galleries in Dallas. More info here |

And/Or’s doing our first art fair in Dallas this weekend… we got the new(ish) Paper Rad video from the Armory and some books, one of the new JODI videos, Tom Moody, Nick Ackerman, John Michael Boling/Javier Morales, a few new Chad Hopper pieces, probably some stuff from our upcoming show with Lily Hanson and Jason Singleton… |

If you’re in Dallas, we’re looking for interns at the gallery again. We haven’t used interns much previously, but I’ve realized I’m going to have to in order to keep the place going. It’s just so much work to keep this place running. We need help with research, installation, promotion, etc. Can’t offer a whole lot but to share my experience and give 50% off any gallery purchases. If you’re an artist without much experience though, spending some time working in a gallery really is very helpful. |

And/Or Gallery Show #8: This is our second showing of painting and collage by Austin-based Chad Hopper, and one of the first gallery shows of the quickly rising video and net artist team from New York, John Michael Boling and Javier Morales. This show’s going to be weird and great, come check it out! February 24th - March 31st more info at www.andorgallery.com ——————————————————— Also going on this weekend in Dallas… Friday night at the Dallas Center for Contemporary Art, a (semi) narrative video show curated by John Pomara, Dean Terry & Joan Davidow. It includes a video from Michael Bell-Smith and some other stuff that looks cool too. More info here. And there’s a new show at Plush opening Saturday night, and a show opening at the Fort Worth Modern on Sunday that includes Loretta Lux |

So we’ve got our first artist talk coming up next week here at And/Or with Michael Bell-Smith and JODI (which is going to be awesome!). But we don’t have many chairs (3 actually). I was going to buy some but we’ve spent way too much money on gear and stuff lately. So if any of you guys that think you’ll be coming to the talk have access to some folding or stacking chair that would be easy to bring, please email me. Also, we’d eventually like to have some sort of movie night here (and Road Agent’s working on that too). I’ve been trying to find some folding chairs that you could actually put your butt in comfortably for 90 minutes, and that don’t cost a fortune. I found some good folding outdoor chairs from Target, but they discontinued them. I’m hoping to find something at or under $30. |

I’ve signed up as a new blogger on the Dallas Metroblog. It’s basically just me and the guys from Art Prostitute blogging right now, but together we should have an okay coverage of arts and other stuff going on in big D. There’s a lot of stuff that I’m tempted to blog about here, but that I think is too much off-topic and too Dallas-centric. My friends and I like to seek out interesting restaurants in Dallas, and I will be blogging more about that. Plus more announcements for local art exhibitions than I would post here. If this stuff interests you, then drop the Metroblog on your RSS and we’ll see how it goes. Also, the blog could use more writers. They ask that you write 3 posts a week, but I say F-that. They don’t enforce it, and quality should come before quantity. Probably would be great to have somebody covering good local and indie music stuff… |
